The Anatomy of An Apartment: A Peek Inside Our New Home
You know what I plan on doing today? I’m going to sit on my couch and watch Netflix. Afterwards, I may take a nap. Why so lazy? Because yesterday, Sebastian and I officially moved into our new apartment in San Francisco. It was a crazy, hectic, wild and, truthfully, stressful day. But — we made it! And we have a gorgeous new home to show for it. The craziest part? The entire moving process lasted only 3 hours. 3 hours. The expedited timeframe was courtesy of our amazing and super-heroic team of friends and helpers who made the entire show as breezy as it possibly could have been.
We woke up at 6:30 and got some coffee and doughnuts for everyone, and the whole cast arrived at around 9:15. It was hilarious – as soon as we opened the door, our apartment went from silent and empty to positively bustling in about a millisecond. The rug came first, then the couches/bedside tables were assembled, and before we could even blink, we had half of an apartment and a room full of fast-moving and meticulously efficient people. Sound nuts? It was!
In what seems like a retrospective miracle, everything was in and put together (nicely!) by 12:15. Our pans and cookware was shelved, our bed assembled, and paintings were hung. Our lease technically started in June, but I felt yesterday for the first time that this space had become ours. Our apartment feels like us – it’s cozy and fairly serene, and I particularly love that it feels uncluttered. In all honesty, there’s really no way that we could possibly be luckier. Most of our furniture is, interestingly enough, from West Elm, which was awesome because they offer fantastic in-home setup for just about anyone.
Our apartment is definitely a work in progress – over the next couple of months/years, I’d love to start buying some more art and collecting mementos of our life in development. But, for now, I’ll be cuddling up on my couch and enjoying the view :)
Special thanks to Pam, Therese, Robert, Brian, Anne, Matt & co. for being such rockstars! You guys are the best. We couldn’t have done it without you!
